Couples Therapy

"Marital Distress is the single most common reason for seeking therapy. It undermines family functioning and is strongly associated with depression, anxiety disorders, and alcoholism.” (ICCEFT brochure)

I am trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy, (EFT) which is considered the “gold standard” of couples therapy.  Research studies show that 70-75% of couples completing EFT move from distress to recovery, and approximately 90% show significant improvements.

The EFT process reduces couples conflict while creating a more secure emotional bond.  EFT is based on adult attachment and the premise that all humans desire and long for connection.  EFT helps couples move beyond the “stuck places”, beyond fighting and withdrawing and move into closeness and security.

Through EFT, couples learn to recognize and map their destructive cycles (Blame/Defend, Criticize/Withdraw, Freeze/Flee) and understand the attachment needs and longings underneath these destructive behaviors.  Couples then transform these negative patterns into more productive and responsive interactions.  Couples learn to be more empathic and engaged with one another, thus strengthening the attachment bond between them.

Whether you are looking to strengthen your current relationship or re-build trust and connection, there is hope.  Please review the following links and call for your 15 minute consultation to see if EFT is the right therapy for you and your relationship.
